Air-gapped deployment
A deployment with no network connection to outside systems. CodeIntent® Studio supports this for environments where source, artifacts, and telemetry can’t leave a controlled boundary.
Allowed Change
One of the model’s six dispositions. Behavior that was deliberately altered under a governed rule, not by accident.
Bounded review (also a Review Boundary)
Where source behavior is genuinely ambiguous, the model surfaces a specific, finite item for a human decision, rather than resolving it silently or guessing.
Chain of evidence
The complete link from a piece of modernized code back to the original source construct and rule that produced it, plus the evidence that the two are equivalent.
CodeIntent®
The deterministic, source-derived model of what a software system does. The technology underneath CodeIntent® Studio.
CodeIntent® Studio
The product built on the CodeIntent® model. This is where modernization, evidence review, and ongoing governance actually happen.
Cutover
The point at which a modernized system goes live in production, replacing the legacy system it was modernized from.
Deterministic
Producing the same output from the same input every time, with no probabilistic variation. The opposite of how a large language model generates text or code.
Deterministic AI
A system whose trusted output is governed by formal rules and reproducible processes, not by unconstrained probability.
Equivalence evidence
The documented proof that a piece of modernized code behaves the same way as the source it came from.
Evidence Package
A CodeIntent® Studio view that collects rules, trace bindings, artifacts, and governed boundaries into one exportable package.
Governance (post-cutover)
The ongoing process of checking every proposed change to a modernized system against the original governed model before it’s accepted.
Governed transformation
A change applied to a system through the formal rules of its model, rather than through direct code editing or probabilistic generation.
JOBOL
Industry shorthand for a common modernization failure: Java code that’s structurally still COBOL, merely transcribed line-by-line into new syntax.
MCP (Model Context Protocol)
The interface CodeIntent® uses to connect to the tools developers already work in.
Net-New
One of the model’s six dispositions. Behavior with no legacy source, added as new functionality and governed the same way as everything else.
Orphaned
One of the model’s six dispositions. Dead or unreachable source, explicitly dropped rather than silently ignored. In aerospace and defense contexts, the equivalent standard terms are “dead code” or “deactivated code.”
Preserved
One of the model’s six dispositions. Behavior kept intact and traced to its original construct.
Scope Ledger
A CodeIntent® Studio view showing every item in a codebase, its review status, and the evidence behind it.
Semantic model (also a source-derived model)
A representation of what a system actually does, built from its source rather than from surface-level syntax, independent of the language it was originally written in.
Technical debt re-accumulation
What happens when a modernized system has no governance layer watching it.
Trace Explorer
The CodeIntent® Studio view that shows the source, the modernized target, and the evidence for any given line, side by side.
Underdetermined behavior
Legacy code behavior that can’t be automatically normalized into a target system. Closely related to a Review Boundary.
Verified
One of the model’s six dispositions. A piece of code demonstrated to be equivalent to its source.
HOLONIC
